Transient logic tag

Converts text into a number.

Sample usage

<num {12}> generates the number 12.
<num { -3.5 }> generates -3.5.
<num {abc}> generates invalid.

Primary field

Vector field

One or more values to convert, usually text.

Secondary fields

None.

Behaviour

Generates the number at the start of each value in the primary field.

Spaces before the number are ignored.
Reading stops at the first character that can't be part of a decimal number: <num {12abc}> generates 12, and <num {1e3}> generates 1.
Text that doesn't start with a number (including empty text) generates invalid.
Only decimal notation is read: <num {x1F}> generates invalid.
Numbers are generated unchanged; true generates 1 and null generates 0.

Notes

Text typed into an input box is always text, even if it looks like a number. Convert it with num before calculating or comparing with it. Test the result with <invalid ...> to check the user actually typed a number.
